Labour wants to hit you with a capital gains tax. It’s really an envy tax on the most successful New Zealanders.
ACT says we should celebrate and encourage success. Greater equality should be achieved by raising up those who struggle.
No country has ever taxed itself into prosperity. Labour’s envy tax would reduce saving and investment in productive assets – the very thing an economy needs to prosper – by double taxing them.
Every dollar of income from owning a business, a rental property, a share or a farm is already subject to income tax. Taxing the value of the asset as well is double taxation.
We can envy success, or our success can be the envy of the world. We can’t have both.
Stand with ACT in opposing Labour’s envy tax.
